The pottery is made in my studio in Des Moines. The pottery is durable, fired to 2252 degrees Fahrenheit. It is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe.
The clay is a white stoneware with porcelain, resulting in a smooth fine piece that is more delicate than the rough stoneware and durable for everyday use.
The glaze has been formulated and mixed in my studio to the exact color and fit to the pottery. The glazes have been put through a rigorous thermal stress test to make sure it doesn't develop hairline cracks over time. The colors have been selected through many glaze tests with differing amounts of colorants.
Recently, I have been playing with the effect of raw clay against glazes. I love the feel of the raw clay next to the buttery glaze. I use a different types of tape, stickers and even rubber bands to create unglazed designs on the pieces.
The bubble glazes have been especially fun to do. The effect is achieved by mixing dish soap with glazes. Then taking a straw and blowing bubbles until they overflow onto the piece.
I delight in creating pottery to use in everyday life. I hope my pieces bring you as much joy as I had making them.
